HL508 facade The project is located next to the famed High-Line elevated rail and one block from the new Frank Gehry Architects building in the heart of the Art Gallery district on Manhattan’s west side. The project is to design the façade of an existing concrete structure. With the mixed use of residences and art gallery space, we created a pixilated and perforated façade pattern to allow for privacy and keep maximum exposure and visibility. The façade skin pattern was generated using 3D software to allow for mass customization, use of fabrication and installation. This system and methodology allows for maximum variations without increasing costs for a custom façade with every panel being different. This system and working in 3D allowed us to quickly generate multiple design variations that took different lighting and exposure patterns into account. |
